Sprout it out loud

What is going on with my water jar? Did I leave it under my bed for to long? Is this some kind of experiment? Why is Andy drinking out of an old salsa jar when he has a very nice set of glasses? Well these are all valid questions.

I did not leave it under my bed to long, it is an experiment and I am afraid I will break the good glasses so I use old salsa jars.

I have started growing my own Alfalfa Sprouts. A friend of mine, Renee, told me she always wanted to do it so it stole her idea and am doing it myself. If you like sprouts you should look into growing them yourself. It is much cheaper and kind of fun also.

In other news we are on day 2 of summer camp 2009. Yesterdays check-in went a bit to smooth. There is a real mellow feel in camp right now. Don't get me wrong it is good, but you are always afraid of what is coming up next.

Monday Monday Monday

So we are in the middle of pre-camp right now. I ducked out to catch up on some paper work and I wanted to drop you all a line so you didn't feel neglected. The sad thing is that there is really little news to report.

I have been staying at camp for the last few nights. I think it helps builds relationships with the staff and I enjoy spending time with the guys. I wish I could bring in my own mattress though. I had forgotten how rough camp beds can be. It is really like sleeping on a ream of paper.

Tomorrow is my big day in training because the nurses are coming in for their training. I am ready and excited, but also a bit nervous. You all know how I like things to go just perfect and get nervous when they don't.

Well I better get back to paperwork and the staff.

The Giving Tree

So I have been really busy lately. This is not the best picture to prove that to you, but it is a great picture none the less. It is my Adventure Team that I spent last weekend training and getting ready for the summer with.

This week at camp has been a lot of pre-pre-camp training. Things like life guarding, inclusive, horse and ropes training. Returning staff training starts tomorrow and then the whole staff comes to start it all off officially on Saturday.

I have been putting the finishing touches on all of my training sessions, meeting new people and getting camp ready to go most of the week. One of the most fun things about this time of the year is all the money you get to spend on new things. My friend Joe used to refer to me as the "Drunken Pirate" because of how much money I would spend. I maintain that it has to be spent.

I thought it was about time I posted a picture of my new ride. It has been a good time learning how to drive this bad boy the last few days. I got it last Friday and have put about 60 miles on it so far. For those of you keeping track at home that is less then one gallon of gas. The manufacture says it gets about 80 mpg. I am guessing about 70ish but we will see. The top comfortable speed is about 50ish. I was going 55 the other day on the highway but it was a little squirmy.

The top case pops off and I can carry it around with me. It is really nice because I just through all my stuff in it and go. It holds a little more then a large paper bag. The seat also pops up and I store my rain cover under the seat. I have a little clove box on the front where I keep my gloves and insurance papers.

It does not have an official name yet. I was kinda hoping something would come up organically, but I am open to suggestions.

I spent my Salary on Celery

All of us used to have a hard time with words. I remember it took me forever to be able to say yellow. I does not help when some words sound so close but are so far away. Not to mention big words that can be used interchangeable like environment and economy. Getting a scooter is good for the economy/environment.

In other word I went to Chicago last weekend to see several friends. Ryan was of course a wonderful host as he always is. He even threw us a Cinco De Mayo party a few days late with decorations.Thelma and Louise, I mean Tonia and Lacy, drove over from Iowa to join the festivities. It is always nice to see them.

Rounding off the top of the guest list was none other than Mr. Seth Naser. What a classy gentleman that guy is.

We spent the weekend re-hashing the glory days of UNI, visiting the Hancock Tower, Art Institute, going to a Second City show, public transportation and of course nightly prayers. It is hard to imagine life without these weekend get a ways. They always leave me so refreshed once I get back home and sleep for two days.

Tweet me and I'll Facebook you back on my I-phone

So I was going to sign up for Twitter the other day, but then I remembered that I am currently in a neglecting wave with my blog so a new platform for electronic communication might not be the best idea. I must admit the concept of twitter does fascinate me, but I have yet to figure out how it is really that much different from just sending a plain text message.

Steve (a gentleman I work with) and I have been having some good conversations about electronic media. He has Facebook and I have a blog so I guess it all comes out in the warsh. He thinks that the next wave of e-media will be video. So instead of sending texts to everyone telling them what we are doing we will send videos of us actually doing it. I got to admit, I think his claim has a lot of merit. We as young Americans are rather lazy and I have often wondered when texting would become to much of a burden for us to handle. I am not sure if he has this idea registered, but if not you guys out their in the cage of words should get on it.

After I reject Twitter I starting thinking about Facebook, so after many years of resistance I decided to get a Facebook account. Yes, I am deceiving you. I in fact did not join Facebook but I can help but have a little fun every now and then.

I also debated the merits of looking into an I-phone. I quickly decided that I am not really sure how an I-pod, or for that matter I-anything, works so I am not going to be up-grading any time soon on that front either.

It amazes me just how far "behind" in technology I am sometimes. Then I stop and remember that technology is created to help us. I can't help but wonder how many people in the world have been hurt by technology. Now I am not advocating throwing away all technology, or really any at all, I just wonder how many people out their are hindered not helped by all the technology in their life.
